Organized by National Climate Center, the first Theme Day of MeteoWorld Pavilion in Shanghai World Expo opened on 20 June 2010. Accompanied by Dr. Wang Shourong, Deputy Administrator of CMA, and Dr. Xiao Ziniu, Director-General of National Climate Cener, Mr. Chen Changzhi, Vice Chairman of NPC Standing Committee, and Zhou Hanmin, Vice Chair of Shanghai PPCC and Vice Chair of World Expo EC, visited the MeteoWorld Pavilion and attend the theme day activities.
Mr. Chen Changzhi visited the theme exhibits such as the wind field sand table model and wind power generation model, and all six exhibition areas. Mr. Chen gave highly appraisement to the MeteoWorld Pavilion and left his signature after his visit. He indicated that, the meteorology services for economic development and peoples’s living, the high-tech exhibition contents of MeteoWorld Pavilion popularizes the meteorological knowledge, propagandizes disaster mitigation and prevention, which has great significance in improving the consciousness and ability of the people in disaster prevention.
The theme of the activity is “new energy makes city more beautiful”. Dr. Wang Shourong indicated that, there is great potential is urban energy conserving and emissions reduction, how to develop and utilize new energy in urban area is not only of great significance of mitigation and adaptation of climate change, but also closely linked with healthy development of modern city and sustainable development of socio-economy. The concepts of new energy development, low-carbon living, mitigation and adaptation of climate change will enjoy popular support through the exhibition. The theme activity of MeteoWorld Pavilion will continue until 30 June 2010.
