Sponsored by CMA (China Meteorological Administration), co-sponsored by SAFEA (State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs), NSFC (Natural Science Foundation of China), START (global change System for Analysis, Research and Training), and hosted by Beijing Climate Center (BCC), the Fourth International Seminar on Climate System and Climate Change (ISCS) is held from 16-27 July 2007.
The seminar mainly focused on atmospheric chemistry and climate effect of aerosol; biogeochemical cycle; the role of cryosphere in climate system and climate change; climate system models and their application in climate change studies; climate change detection and attribution; Climate change impact and its assessment; uncertainties in Climate Change. Invited 6 famous international experts from France, Germany, Sri Lanka, USA, Switzerland and UK to be teachers and lecturers, and also organize discussions and exchanges.
Over 200 Chinese participants from CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences), CMA (China Meteorological Administration), SOA (State Oceanic Administration), Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Lanzhou University, Sun Yat-sen University and 9 foreign participants from Korea, Mongolia, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam attend the ISCS. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Zheng Guoguang, Administrator of CMA, made an address. Dr. Qin Dahe, Academician of CAS and President of ISCS, presented certificates to the lecturers.
On the opening ceremony, Dr. Zheng Guoguang said that climate change and extreme climate events have great influence the sustainable development of social and economic. Therefore, we must intensify the climate system and climate change research. In 2007, Chinese government formulated a response program to climate change, CMA also very concerned about it. Although, China has made some progress in the climate system and climate change research after years of effort, we still need to improve our research ability, and expanse our knowledge of the latest research developments in climate system and climate change. We hope to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation between China and the world by holding the ISCS.
