The “World Meteorological Day” (WMD) is on 23 March, whose theme of 2006 is preventing and mitigating natural disasters”. In order to celebrate the WMD, the China Meteorological Society will make propaganda from 23 to 26 March 2006 in the campus of CMA. During this period, the Central Meteorological Observatory, the National Satellite Meteorological Center and the Huafeng Group of Meteorological Audio and Video will be open to the public. The experts from NMC, NCC, NSMC, NMIC and CAMS will attended the interactive activities. Moreover, all domestic meteorological departments will organize rich and colorful propaganda activities to celebrate the WMD.

      In order to commemorate the WMD, the Special Interview Program “Away from Disasters” will be presented from 22:00pm to 23:30pm on 23 March 2006 on the Education Channel of CCTV. The program will mainly review the global abrupt and historical severe natural disasters, introduce the prediction and warning system in our country, so as to make the public better understand the common sense of natural disaster warning and realize the relationship between global warming and natural disaster frequency, to advocate harmonious relation between human and nature. Dr. Xu Xiaofeng, Deputy Administrator of CMA, Prof. Pan Jiahua from CSAS and Prof. Zou Bin from People’s University will be the guests of the program.
